{"id":262,"date":"2012-07-08T10:29:10","date_gmt":"2012-07-08T09:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.michaelbrooke.com\/bockbockbock\/?p=262"},"modified":"2012-07-08T18:24:04","modified_gmt":"2012-07-08T17:24:04","slug":"psychic-chickens-possibly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.michaelbrooke.com\/bockbockbock\/2012\/07\/08\/psychic-chickens-possibly\/","title":{"rendered":"Psychic chickens!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the 2010 World Cup, a British-born, German-based <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_the_Octopus\">octopus named Paul<\/a> made the headlines for his unerringly accurate forecasts of the results of key football matches.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, Paul passed away shortly afterwards, exhausted by all that psychic energy, but this leaves an obvious opening for other creatures to display similarly astonishing predictive feats.<\/p>\n<p>So this morning, following an inspired Facebook suggestion by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pootergeek.com\">Damian Counsell<\/a>, I placed the same amount of corn onto identical plates marked with the initials of today&#8217;s Wimbledon men&#8217;s singles finalists Roger Federer and Andy Murray, placed them at either side of the ramp leading up to the hen house (by the time I did this, I had no idea which plate was which any more), and opened the door&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9I28wDYbfd8\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, despite Queenie gamely sticking up for her fellow underdog, the result could hardly have been more conclusive.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll know the truth in a few hours&#8217; time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong> And the psychic chickens <em>got it right<\/em>!\u00a0 Woohoo!\u00a0 Not only that, they even suggested a surge from Murray that ultimately came to nothing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the 2010 World Cup, a British-born, German-based octopus named Paul made the headlines for his unerringly accurate forecasts of the results of key football matches.
